Based in south wales and specializing in location based and challenging environments camera assisting and operating, I work as a camera assistant and junior operator across the UK. I have experience and credits ranging from music videos to independent documentaries, specialist factual to primetime entertainment and more recently big budget drama. With 3 years of experience camera assisting, 1 year of experience in kit hire, and around 24 years of experience of being in the outdoors and getting muddy and uncomfortable, I'd like to think I'm well suited to my chosen area of natural history, adventure and travel programming. I might not have every zoological qualification under the sun (in fact, short of watching most wildlife documentaries that exist, I have none) but what I lack in the BSc (Hons) department, I more than make up for in energy, passion, work ethic and a willingness to get stuck in with improvisation and innovation to get the absolute best results of any shooting situation. I thrive on the challenge of filming in torrential rain, particularly on the side of a precipitous drop. I love to prove skeptical producers wrong when they get their heart set on a shot they don't think possible.

Ryan is a graduate of Bournemouth University's TV Production course, and a freelance camera operator / assistant based in Bristol, UK. Back in 2009, Ryan travelled to South Africa and gained experience in wildlife documentary as an assistant cameraman, and also helped to mentor a group of students on NHU Africa's wildlife film-making course in the Kruger National Park - sharing his own knowledge of cameras and photography at the time.

His most recent work was as a camera operator for a documentary following London's population of urban foxes, starting back in August 2011. Ryan spent the following seven months locating and filming red foxes in the streets and gardens of London and the surrounding areas, and also back here in Bristol. The programme's low budget meant that Ryan was required to undertake a significant amount of self-shooting and organisation - requiring resourcefulness, patience and the ability to maintain focus in situations where he was working long and unsociable hours in some fairly uncomfortable environments.

Outside of natural history Ryan has gained experience with a wide variety of camera systems, including 4K, slow-motion and specialist cameras, and various broadcast formats. He has worked as an operator, focus puller and 1st AC on shorts, corporates and feature films shot on Red's 4K camera system, and is also part of a camera team that specialises in digital cinema. Having worked as a professional multi-skiller, he is also a proficient FCP editor, illustrator and motion graphics designer - please follow the link to the website on the left, where you can find out more about Ryan and his work.

Just graduated BA Audiovisual Media specialised as documentary cameraman, I have also developed good experience as a Camera Assistant and Sound Recordist.

From the start of my first days in Film making I've gained much experience from pre- to post-production. I'm best described as a young cameraman with good knowledge of (digital) post production workflows and wildlife.

Work at a combined equipment rental company and post production facility brought me good knowledge of both. Equipment wise this has brought me good experience in HD and newer types of cameras like the Red One, Alexa and DSLR. With the experience in such cameras, I work increasingly as digital Clapper-loader on Dutch feature films an commercials. A person on the set archiving and backup is increasingly a necessity in the world of digital film production.

I love to work in teams but I'm very capable of working on my own as well. I'm self driven, fast in troubleshooting and always in search of new adventures!

Wild and rugged, yet hugely tame with humans and animals alike, Chris is always a favourite with wildlife filmmakers and conservationists the world over. His adaptability and skill set has allowed him to flourish in a wide range of habitats, whilst a highly committed and conscientious work ethic means his presence is always beneficial to his environment.

He has been spotted completing a wildlife filmmaking course in South Africa with NHU Africa, and current reports from the field suggest he is pencilling an independent shark documentary to be based in Costa Rica for 2 months later this year.

Although there is ability and motivation in abundance, he is still a fledgling in this territory, and therefore looking to gain as much experience as he can to fire up his wildlife filmmaking career. Foundations have been built in camera techniques, sound & video editing and script writing and his eagerness to learn more, try new things and develop his skills is overwhelming. Put him anywhere, doing anything, on any project, and he will revel in it.

One of the more creative types of the species, his background has combined graphic design with wildlife conservation, gaining experience in both the field and office environments, notably researching white sharks in South Africa; sharks, stingrays and turtles in the Maldives; being a trail leader through South America; and working in design and event management for a conservation NGO. His field experience has also seen him filmed in and assisting with documentaries by National Geographic and Vox production companies.

Offspring includes the clothing brand Dorsal, which was created to raise funding for shark research and conservation efforts, together with CoExistence, a marine conservation charity fund (both non-salaried projects).

He's out there somewhere! He is tagged though, so can easily be located by anyone interested in doing so. As a final note: he will be over-excitable, but don't be afraid - its because he likes you.

I am an environmental history graduate, with a real passion for communicating stories about the natural world. Having studied a Masters degree in environmental policy, I understand the great need to communicate science to a mass audience, in an imaginative, understandable and engaging way. My Masters thesis focused on natural history television as a tool for conservation, a subject I feel strongly about.

I have been involved in the project Ghosts of Gone birds, and 2020 vision, and have written pieces for both the exhibition and book respectively. I am keen to use my skills as a writer, and my knowledge of environmental and conservation issues, to tell truthful yet captivating stories about the state of our planet.

I have experience in the field, having been lucky enough to work as a marine research diver in the Seychelles, and am a PADI qualified specialist reef diver. Recently I completed a course at Wildeye, in research and production for wildlife films. I am currently working with the company Opticron, as part of their 'A Focus on Nature' scheme, which works to encourage a younger generation to get involved in, enthused and passionate about nature, by providing financial support, career advice and networking experience. I am now working on setting up 'AFON diaries', where we will be interviewing sponsors, and keeping up to date with our recipients as they explore the natural world. Videos are to follow on the website - www.afocusonnature.org.uk

Sebastien was born and bred in Libreville, Gabon (Central Africa) - hence his deep passion for Nature and his love of adventure, traveling and sharing!

After studying european and african nature conservation and wildlife filmmaking, he had the opportunity to work on his first wildlife documentary with Africa Wildlife Films Production company. The documentary, called Swimming Scared, is about Great White Sharks and Cape Fur Seals filmed in the notorious waters off Cape Town. After even a short time working on this film, Seb finally found his true passion which took him to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve where he operated as a 2D/3D camera operator, editor and presenter for Wildearth.TV for their live safaris. Being one of the pioneers in the 3D film industry, he was approached by world renowned filmmakers, Foster Brother Productions, to work on Dragon 3D. This 1 hour film is about scuba diving with Nile Crocodiles in the Okavango Delta and Seb was responsible for all the online 3D editing. During his film career, Seb has edited numerous projects for Wildearth.tv, his flagship being a 13 part 3D series about safaris in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and the current series called Kalahari Meerkats 3D with Wildearth.TV

He is now an independent wildlife filmmaker through Beyond Borders Productions trading as 'Beyond Borders' where he tries to get involved into as many wildlife documentaries and films as possible, marketing himself as a producer, 2D&3D video editor, DOP and 2D&3D camera operator. Seb has a professional edit suite with Final Cut Pro and a 3D TV and can also offer his editing services with his own equipment if you don't have yours. He is also a very keen photographer in possession of a Sony Alpha 200 with a wide range of focus lenses.

Seb is now based in Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa. He is a very keen traveller and he will not hesitate to jump in a car or a plane to be part of your current production if you need his services. His 2013 new year resolutions are to get his skippers license and learn underwater photography and films. His passion for marine life is as strong as for land animals and he can't wait to be involved in underwater wildlife documentaries - "even if I have to re-start at the bottom of the ladder" he says!

His other project for 2013 is the opening of his 3D Nature Film School! Along with other professional wildlife filmmakers Seb will pass on the knowledge and train a new generation of wildlife filmmakers in 2D and 3D. His love and passion for all things wild and free can be seen in his projects, and his open mindedness and inventive thinking can only be a benefit to your current and future productions.

Interests:
Wildlife - I aim to put my passion for wildlife to work. I look to work within the Wildlife film industry. I am willing to work in various work placements and gain experience as a runner/volunteer within the production industry.
Travelling - I strive to embrace new challenges, cultures and meet new people.
Fitness - I believe that keeping fit is the key to a focused mind. Running, walking, going to the gym and swimming are amongst my preferred interests.
Living Life - I strive to live life to the full. I am eager to learn skills for the future and I constantly try to better myself and experience new things. Above all, I believe that every person should be afforded respect and I will always do my best to be considerate, thoughtful and understanding to the people I meet.
2013 - Completed the Wildeye Research and Production for Wildlife Documentaries Course. This course enabled me to gain a thorough grounding to all of the skills required within the research sector of the wildlife film making industry. I was able to complete my own research practical which included writing treatments and proposals. The course also covered both pre and post-production work, including coordination and logistics.
2012 - present: Blue Reef Aquarium- Tynemouth My work as a volunteer includes all aspects of animal care and husbandry within the aquarium. I am responsible for the maintenance and design of all displays and preparing feeds for the animals. I have gained experience cleaning tanks, using techniques which include gravel siphoning, water testing and water changing. I also train harbour seals using various target training methods. One of my daily tasks is to deliver engaging presentations to the public. Subjects of such presentations include local rock pool fauna, primate behaviour, otter behaviour and seal behaviour.
2011-2012: Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens As a volunteer, I assisted in all animal husbandry procedures within the zoo. When interacting with the public, I used a combination of my educational background and my drama/expressive art based skills. This allowed guests to gain an educational insight as well as experience an enjoyable visit to the facility. I also worked as a team member representing the zoo at a country fair, promoting their conservation work and projects to the public. My third year university dissertation required me to create and complete a 5 month research project at the zoo comprising of an investigation into the receptivity to training of ring-tailed lemurs. I completed a voluntary cadetship at the zoo.
September 2011: Belize Manatee Rehabilitation Centre
As part of my degree, I took part in the Zoology Overseas module. This enabled me to travel to Belize for a month where I learned to work as part of a volunteer team at a manatee and monkey rehabilitation centre. I took part in all animal husbandry procedures around the centre and assisted in various surveys regarding the manatee and its habitat. Part of the centre's work was to provide an educational input at local summer schools regarding manatee conservation. I enjoyed taking part in these sessions, using my freshly gained knowledge and interpersonal skills to educate and engage the children.
First and second year Zoology course representative at Newcastle University. I was chosen to represent my course to prospective students at Newcastle University. This role required me to give guided tours around the university campus and answer any questions that the students may have. I was also required to give small presentations to groups of students regarding student life at Newcastle University. As part of this role, I had to give a 15 minute presentation as part of a Newcastle Careers Service presentation. I described my Zoology Overseas experience to a class of 150 students. This presentation was designed to give insight into how the overseas experience improved my employment skills.

Achievements - In 2006 I joined the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. This is an award given for completing a programme of activities that can be undertaken by anyone aged 14 to 24 and is also run in other countries by the International Awards Association. The scheme‚s purpose is to help in the character training of young British people and to improve their life experiences, employability and physical fitness. D of E programmes take between 1 year and 4 years to complete, depending upon the route taken. All programmes must be completed by the participant's 25th birthday. With assistance from adult leaders, participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas which are subsequently assessed:

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
  • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
  • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
  • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.
  • At Gold level, participants must do an additional fifth residential section, which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity.
  • In January 2009 having successfully completed all objectives, I was personally presented by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh with a Gold Award under the scheme.

July 2007: Sri Lanka World Challenge Expedition.
World Challenge provides educational expeditions in the developing world which teach life skills and expands experiences outside of the classroom. This group expedition developed enabled me to gain self-reliance and work well as part of a team. I was able to develop my organisational and planning skills as my turn as group leader. My interpersonal skills developed as I acknowledged the needs of others and experienced another culture. Achieved the Mencafep-Sri Lanka Award for the Care of Humanity (July 2007) In recognition of contributions to special needs children and young people in Sri Lanka.
