Combine nature and adventure photo-journalist + outdoor adventure guide & trainer + ramblings of an Australian environmental scientist = a rough etching of Steve Curtain.
Oh, who can shoot, FCP edit and produce, too.
Grounded by three years as an editor at 'Wild' and 'Rock' magazines - leading Australian nature and climbing publications, see www.wild.com.au - Steve has written, filmed and photographed for 'Australian Geographic', national park agencies and Australian domestic newspapers.
Converting his earliest epic outings into something worthwhile, Steve has been fortunate to professionally guide throughout south-east Australia by ski, foot, raft and rope and in the Antarctic/sub-antarctic courtesy of a Russian ice-strengthened vessel and the occasional Zodiac. He teaches students of all ages especially young adults training to be outdoor educators and guides themselves. Please visit www.stephencurtain.com for more.
Dedicating himself to the study of iconic, magnetic 'green' subjects such as Lake Pedder, the world's only glacio-fluvial lake in Australia's far south - drowned for hydro-electricity in 1972 but now experiencing possible restoration, see here – to the Australian Alps, a little-known but immensely significant ancient landscape to indigenous and non-indigenous Australian alike, see www.vimeo.com/41687607, Steve loves his environmental work and the difference it hopefully makes for a healthy planet for healthy people.
Thanks for reading. |

• Work experience at Sky Vision in Bristol, where I used my scientific knowledge to research interesting scientific phenomena for the purposes of film-making.
• Work experience at Films@59 where I worked as a runner.
About me:
I’m James Dunbar and I love to photographs insects.
I originally trained as a scientist achieving a hons degree in Zoology from the University of Glasgow, specialising in the study of ant-plant mutualisms, but was also interested in neurological mechanisms of behaviour, bio-ethics and behavioural ecology. Whilst at university I organised and led an expedition to Peru to collect data for my dissertation making valuable contacts in this country with whom I am still in touch with today.
After graduating I took up photography as a hobby. For the first few years I was largely self-taught, learning photography as a trade by completing an HNC in the subject whilst working part time.
After this I went to the University of Salford and got an MA in Wildlife Documentary Production for which I achieved a distinction. For this course I shot, directed, edited, graded and sound engineered my first film entitled Raft Spider.
I am currently looking for an entry level position as a camera assistant, runner or technician where I can meet people and learn skills to further enhance my existing knowledge, with the ultimate goal of being a professional full-time freelance macro photographer. |

Rupert is an ex-British soldier who now runs HASP Training Ltd, a company that trains media and professionals to operate safely in areas where their very presence puts them at risk.
When it comes to hostile environment training, freelancers often get a raw deal as they have to cough up for a course which is often £2.5K and more, or they don't get considered for the work.
HASP aims to redress that balance and offer shorter, better thought out, more specific and tailored courses that don't involve a 6 night stay, and are much cheaper.
Rupert and the HASP teams' approach is "Prepare Not Scare", he has taught on BBC courses in Pakistan, India, the US and Kenya and you can now join him on a course in Surrey or he can come to your offices.
"As the world changes so do our courses, they've got to and we're always learning, we look forward to hearing from you." Rupert |

Andy Rogan is an intelligent, multi-skilled Anglo-American with experience on both sides of the Atlantic. He has extensive knowledge in a number of factual disciplines stretching from the humanities and arts to the sciences. His core expertise (other than wildlife and in particular animal behaviour) lie in history, anthropology and archaeology, backed up by a BA in Archaeology & Anthropology and an MSc in Animal Behavior.

Andy is passionate about environmentalist and humanitarian issues, and has close links with the Ocean Alliance (an NGO dedicated to saving whales and their ocean environment), and Shishu Polli Plus, an orphanage in Bangladesh. A highlight of this was filming the daily life of the crew on board The Odyssey, the Ocean Alliance’s research vessel, around the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill n the Gulf of Mexico. This involved filming the numerous encountered species including Sperm Whales, Spotted Dolphins, Leatherback Turtles and Oceanic Sunfish; but also setting up, creating and re-creating shots, interviewing and sound recording.
He also is a passionate stills photographerwho enjoys combining this passion with his interests in anthropology/travel/culture, history and of course wildlife.
Having only recently finished his MSc, he is very keen to begin taking the next steps in his career: either on location or in research and production. |
