Douglas Lyon: Line Producer, Field Producer and founder of Excelman Productions.

We are Producers, Production Managers, Line Producers, Field Producers, Journalists and Directors! We have 20 years of experience in more than 50 different countries, with an incredible network of contacts, and reliable veteran staff in each country! We have come to be known as "Africa specialists", but actually we began with Fashion and News, then Variety shows and Reality Shows, and although we love it all, but we must confess a particular passion for Broadcast News, Documentaries, and... well, you guessed it: Africa! The primary vocation of Excelman Productions ranges from the complete production to simply the logistic management and co-ordination, of a wide spectrum of primarily audio-visual projects in video or film: hard news, documentaries, live satellite broadcasts, variety shows, reality shows, sports events, TV films, commercials, etc. In just a few years, after many prestigious shoots all over France, Europe and two dozen African nations (a total of more than 50 different countries), EXCELMAN Productions has become a privileged partner of all of the major Japanese television networks and production companies as well as the most prominent advertising agencies. Need a crew to tell your story? A Producer? Director? A Journalist? Contact Us! We work extensively throughout Europe and Africa and we would be delighted to suggest cost effective solutions in order to achieve results above and beyond your hopes and expectations!

As concerns the wildlife film genre, strangely we have not done any! It is a mystery, but given our extensive experience in Africa, it would be very easy for us to handle the logistics of such projects, which is why I thought that Wildlife-Film.com might be good for us... We have, of course, for many of our Africa projects, tracked and filmed wild animals, and have a good idea of the difficulties involved... but we have never worked on a project dedicated strictly to the “Wildlife” theme... Yet!

It is often a daunting experience to film in a foreign country and having a reliable Fixer on the ground makes it a lot easier, and that is where Magic Touch Films comes to the forefront.

Most African countries require filming permissions or licensing, temporary work visas, and carnets or customs documentation for temporary importation of equipment. All of these will be sourced quickly and easily on your behalf by Magic Touch Films and we have excellent relationships with the various government bodies and organisations, which make us super-efficient, highly competent and well-organized.

Accommodation and vehicles are of international standards and will meet your expectations and level of comfort in most African countries.

Our travelling motto is that no location is inaccessible. We can travel either by road or light aircraft to the remotest parts of the country. We will work closely with clients to devise the best schedule and logistics to meet your production’s available time schedule and budget.

Our locations range from the ever changing vistas of the dune-sea, desert landscapes, African savannah, captivating mountains and canyons, rivers and lakes as well as rural villages, cities and abandoned ghost towns. Namibia also offers natural panoramas filled with an abundance of wildlife which is a natural history filmmaker’s dream, as well as rustic rural villages of a variety of ethnic groups and tribes for the visual anthropologist.

Logistics and locations are always essential to get the best out of your shoot. Sending a crew into the field costs money and smooth transportation, accommodation, etc. are essential to get the most out of your investment. We can assist with that like we have done for many (international) film crew who came to Canada.

Locations: We have the knowledge of many local / hidden places where you can film wildlife in its most natural environment. We also have some contacts with First Nation which can give you access to their territory.

People: People make the difference. Knowing who to talk to, about what and why is the key to getting the right story.

Permits: We can help you in obtaining permits where needed with the right authorities.

Over thirty years we have had several thousand separate crews from forty countries, resulting in one thousand three hundred and fifty finished films or series - and rising by the day.

Founded by Jean Hartley and the legendary Alan Root, the directors include ornithologist extraordinaire Leon Bennun, photographer, anthropologist and film maker Mia Collis and wildlife manager and guide Sajid Darr.

Operating in Kenya, with associated colleagues in neighbouring countries, we facilitate for natural history and documentary film crews from all over the world.

Our service includes the 'normal' fixer things - obtaining all permits, licences and permissions, as well as arranging temporary importation of equipment, transport, hotel/lodge or private camp accommodation, internal flights and air charters, aerial filming, etc. We go the extra mile - logistical challenges are our speciality - nothing is impossible and we never take 'no' for an answer.

"We are apparently credited with having invented 'fixing' as a profession, though whether that can be verified we are not sure." Jean Hartley

Films produced under the watchful eye of Sajid are invaluable as they inspire hoards of visitors to Kenya, supporting the country’s tourism industry. They come keen to experience the natural history and wildlife of Kenya first-hand after being wowed by the stories and images seen on their televisions or on cinema screens.

If you’re thinking of making a film in Kenya/East Africa, make sure you get in touch with Sajid early on so as to facilitate your production being as smooth and efficient as possible!
