WWT need wildlife film volunteers in the north west.
Come be part of a team at Martin Mere capturing wildlife footage in a beautiful setting.
Capture wildlife moments on the wetlands, a reminder of a once vast mere and an oasis for wildlife.
If you can offer a few hours a week, this is a great way to learn or put training into practice and build up your CV/showreel.
Some video skills and lots of enthusiasm would be helpful, as would your own kit, but that's not essential.

Atlantic - A Film whose Time has Come!
‘Atlantic’ is the latest documentary film from the makers of the award winning documentary, ‘The Pipe’. ‘Atlantic’ follows the fortunes of three fishing communities united and divided by the Atlantic ocean, as they struggle to maintain their way of life despite mounting challenges within their own industry and environment, and an increase of oil exploration activities in their fishing grounds.
On both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, new hydrocarbon frontiers are moving out into deeper water, and further north into the Arctic, pushing the boundaries of risk and technology in the race for the last great oil fields.
The film will chart the politics of resource management of the North Atlantic; from strong State control in Norway, mixed fortunes in Newfoundland, to a more liberal, privatised system in Ireland.
‘Atlantic’, through the experience of these coastal neighbours, poses the question: who will benefit from the exploitation of these resources, and what the consequences will be for communities and the environment?

I Bought A Rainforest with Charlie Hamilton James
Wildlife photographer Charlie Hamilton James has bought 100 acres of the Peruvian Rainforest - without even looking at it first. Situated at the end of a road, he hopes it’s a strategic purchase which will stop loggers illegally entering the Manu National Park and cutting down trees. Over three programmes, Charlie discovers that the problems facing the Amazon are now all on his doorstep - the drug trade, illegal gold mining, logging and poverty. To make the right decisions about his land he needs to understand these problems, and he sets out to learn more by living and working with the local people. Intercut with Charlie’s photographs of wildlife and the people he meets, this is a jungle adventure that takes in everything from venomous snakes and hallucinogenic shamanic brews to flesh-eating diseases. Along the way, Charlie's wife, Philippa Forrester, comes out to check on his progress. The question is, what will Charlie decide to do with his land, and will the experience change Charlie’s ideas about how to help preserve the rainforest?
In episode one, we join Charlie as he first visits his land and discovers he hasn’t bought the pristine rainforest of his dreams, but 100 acres of secondary forest complete with a squatter, coca crops, and some reputedly dangerous neighbours. Undaunted, Charlie sets off to find out what animals and insects still live on his land, but it’s only when he visits a local NGO that has successfully replanted a large area of forest that Charlie begins to believe his mission is not entirely hopeless.
Alongside biologist Andy Whitworth, Charlie goes to find a mahogany tree which is due to be cut down in just 24 hours’ time. They do a ‘bio-blast’ on the tree – cataloguing as many species as they can that live on or around the tree – an exercise which highlights just how much wildlife will lose its habitat when the tree is logged. Devastated by the loss of one of the giants of the forest, Charlie returns to his land determined to confront the illegal logger squatting there and throw him off. But when he finally catches up with him, Charlie’s resolve is tested in an unexpected way…
I Bought A Rainforest was co-produced in partnership with The Open University.

Virunga coming soon!
VIRUNGA IS THE INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY OF A GROUP OF BRAVE PEOPLE RISKING THEIR LIVES TO BUILD A BETTER FUTURE IN A PART OF AFRICA THE WORLD HAS FORGOTTEN AND A GRIPPING EXPOSE OF THE REALITIES OF LIFE IN THE CONGO.
In the forested depths of eastern Congo lies Virunga National Park, one of the most bio-diverse places in the world and home to the last of the mountain gorillas. In this wild, but enchanted environment, a small and embattled team of park rangers - including an ex-child soldier turned ranger, a carer of orphan gorillas and a Belgian conservationist - protect this UNESCO world heritage site from armed militia, poachers and the dark forces struggling to control Congo's rich natural resources. When the newly formed M23 rebel group declares war in May 2012, a new conflict threatens the lives and stability of everyone and everything they've worked so hard to protect.

An Inside Look at the Exotic Animal Trade
Wildlife trafficking is estimated to be a $19 billion per year global business, surpassed only by black-market sales and trafficking of drugs, humans, and firearms.
In the United States, regulation of private ownership of exotic animals is determined by each state, allowing for loopholes and oversight. Animals are bought and traded through auctions, backyard breeders, illicit online sales and more. The industry is growing right in our backyards.
VICE travels to Ohio to rescue a cougar, then to Texas for an exotic livestock auction and undercover visit to a gaming ranch where the animals are sold and hunted for up to $15,000 a piece.
