The Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam (WFFR) is the only film festival for nature documentaries in the Netherlands and shows the most recent films from home and abroad. Since its first edition in 2015, WFFR has been taking place in the Rotterdam film theatre Cinerama, which was also the vibrant heart of the festival this year. The programme consists of beautiful documentaries showing the beauty of nature, as well as films showing the relationship between man and nature. During WFFR, visitors can talk to the many filmmakers present, attend special lectures and take part in interesting activities related to nature conservation.
This year WFFR will be held from November 4-10th 2024 ... the 10th Anniversary Edition!
Entries must have a central focus on non-domesticated wildlife species, natural habitats, conservation or the environment. They demonstrate the beauty of nature and raise awareness about the collective responsibility we have to maintain it.
Filmmakers from anywhere in the world can participate. WFFR welcomes (independent) filmmakers, production companies, distributors or broadcasters to submit their latest film(s).
The 2024 festival will feature the best films from all over the world. We will be screening all of our official selections in the heart of Rotterdam at Cinerama Movie Theater. The WFFR Industry Days ’24 will take place on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 November2024. Here you can meet/catch-up with other film professionals and participate in workshops, pitch sessions and social events.
The festival program offers public screenings during these six days at Cinerama Movie Theatre that is located downtown Rotterdam. WFFR also takes place online. All participated films in the online part are geoblocked for The Netherlands only.
The big winner in 2022 was Wolf, a film entirely devoted to the return of this special predator back to the Netherlands after 150 years.
Filmmaker Cees van Kempen (pictured) was happy with the award and said "The appreciation of Wolf by the jury, but also by the public, is heartwarming. I hope the film will contribute to a better understanding of this beautiful animal. It is extremely good news for nature that they are back in our country!"
