Biologist, cameraman, editor, director, drone operator, scuba diver, Phantom high speed camera operator.
I am a biologist and started a career as wildlife filmmaker in 2014. My major production is the urban nature documentary Het Noorderplantsoen, being in charge of the camera, script, editing, sound & music design and the production process. The film was locally screened in cinemas and selected for Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam, NaturVision, Menigoute festival and Green Screen. At the latter I was awarded an Honorable mention.
In 2011 I joined the Flightartists operating the Phantom v710 high speed camera to capture fast moving animals. My resulting short video A Leap of Frog was selected for Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam and won an audience award. The footage also contributed to the Dutch Nieuwe Wildernis TV series.
At the end of my MSc in biology I focussed on dolphin behaviour, hence I participated in HEPCAs Red Sea Dolphin project and made a promotional video for which I put my scuba diving skills to good use.
In 2013 I entered Wildeye's course Creative Wildlife Video Editing which highly improved my editing skills. Conclusively I operate Panasonics GH3+4, the Phantom v710 and Miro M320S, DJI drones and creatively edit to the footage to appealing videos. Although I can work alone I am also a fun team player. I am eager to learn to handle more cameras, new related technologies and to further improve my editing skills. I do sports to keep in shape for physically demanding conditions. I communicate fluently in Dutch, English and German.
I am available for both camera and editing projects. Have a look at my website www.hilcojansma.com to see my work.
